Langkawi Turns Up the Merdeka Spirit with a Month of Malaysian Flavours, Music and Heritage
Aloft by Marriott Langkawi Pantai Tengah is bringing together Malaysian flavours, batik, live music and island hospitality for a month-long Merdeka celebration stretching across August and September.
For travellers looking to combine a Langkawi island escape with a taste of Malaysia’s cultural spirit, this Merdeka season offers another reason to head to Pantai Tengah. Aloft by Marriott Langkawi Pantai Tengah is marking Malaysia’s National Day with a month-long programme of food, music, creative experiences and festive gatherings, giving guests and locals a chance to celebrate the country through some of its most familiar flavours and traditions.
At the centre of the programme is the Majestic Bunga Raya Afternoon Tea, a Malaysian-inspired experience running every Wednesday to Saturday from 2pm to 5pm throughout August and September at W XYZ Bar.
Priced at RM98 for two, the afternoon tea brings together contemporary presentations with flavours inspired by Malaysia, including Pandan Gula Melaka Sago Cake and Teh Tarik Layer Cake, alongside savoury selections such as smoked salmon and garlic and herb cream cheese cucumber. The experience also includes two W XYZ On Tour drinks, with guests able to choose between the Malaysian-inspired mocktail “Pour Some Milo on Me” and the cocktail “Kopi Me Softly”.
The experience goes beyond the table, with guests also invited to take part in a batik painting activity. It is a simple but appealing addition for visitors who want their Merdeka celebration to include a creative encounter with one of Malaysia’s best-known traditional art forms.
For families and groups, the hotel will host The Ultimate Merdeka Chow Down Buffet at Nook on Sunday, August 30, from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
The buffet will feature more than 100 local and international dishes, including premium seafood, live cooking stations and a selection of desserts. Adult tickets are priced at RM128 nett, while senior citizens pay RM89 and children RM64. Marriott Bonvoy members and Langkawians can enjoy 20 per cent off, while Maybank and Affin Bank credit cardholders receive 15 per cent off, subject to the stated terms.
The evening then moves from dinner to music as Aloft hosts its Live@Aloft: Merdeka Eve Countdown at W XYZ Bar from 9pm to 12.30am. Live band performances, interactive entertainment, activities and light bites will set the scene ahead of midnight. Guests who want the full evening can opt for the Merdeka Buffet Dinner + Countdown Party package at RM166 nett per person, including the buffet, one drink and access to the entertainment and countdown. Those joining later can purchase the Countdown Party package at RM48 nett per person, which includes one drink and access to the evening’s activities.
The programme fits naturally into Aloft Langkawi’s wider positioning as a contemporary island hotel. Located overlooking the Pantai Cenang area, the property combines modern, urban-inspired design with the relaxed character of island living. It has 203 guestrooms, four event spaces, the Splash pool, Nook restaurant and W XYZ Bar, as well as facilities including a Kids Club, Re:Charge gym and buggy service to the beach.
For travellers, the appeal is perhaps less about a single Merdeka event and more about the combination: a Langkawi getaway framed by Malaysian food, local creative traditions and an evening of live entertainment.
Whether it is an afternoon tea and batik session, a long buffet dinner with family and friends or a night spent counting down to Merdeka with live music, Aloft’s programme offers visitors a distinctly Malaysian way to experience the island this August.
Reservations and enquiries can be made directly with Aloft by Marriott Langkawi Pantai Tengah.
