Finnish sports watchmaker Suunto has launched the Race 3S, a compact GPS performance watch featuring a titanium bezel, a bright AMOLED display, up to 38 hours of dual-band GPS battery life and a new AI-powered coaching service designed to help athletes make better use of their training data. Suunto has introduced the Race 3S, a next-generation performance watch aimed at runners, trail athletes and endurance sports enthusiasts, combining advanced navigation and training tools with a lightweight titanium design.

Announced in Vantaa, Finland, on 21 October, the watch weighs 56 grams with its silicone strap and features a 46mm case designed to provide a comfortable fit, including for users with smaller wrists. Its titanium bezel and sapphire crystal glass are intended to improve durability during demanding outdoor activities.

One of the Race 3S's main upgrades is its battery performance. The watch offers up to 38 hours of operation in dual-band GPS mode, or up to 32 hours with the always-on display enabled. In smartwatch mode, battery life can reach 12 days, according to the company.

The watch also features a 1.32-inch LTPS Hybrid AMOLED display with a resolution of 466 by 466 pixels and peak brightness of 2,000 nits. The screen is designed to keep pace, distance and navigation information readable in bright outdoor conditions.

Navigation is another central feature, with free worldwide offline maps that include contour lines and place names. The maps can be downloaded directly to the watch and used without a subscription, making them useful for trail runners and other athletes operating in areas with limited mobile connectivity.

Additional tools include Climb Guidance, which provides information about upcoming ascents and descents, and Race Planner, designed to develop personalised pacing strategies using route information, weather conditions and a runner's target. Suunto said Race Planner is planned for a future app and firmware update, with availability and timing subject to change.

The Race 3S also marks the debut of Suunto AI Coach, a conversational coaching feature within the company's app. It uses an athlete's training data to provide analysis, guidance and recommendations, while helping users create structured workouts, training plans and routes that can be synchronised with the watch.

Customers who purchase and pair the Race 3S can receive three months of Suunto AI Coach access at no additional cost by activating the watch through the Suunto app by 31 December 2026.

Hardware improvements include the Apollo 510 processor, intended to deliver faster responses when navigating maps and menus, and an upgraded optical heart-rate sensor featuring six LEDs and four photodetectors. When paired with a compatible Suunto heart-rate belt, the watch also supports ZoneSense, which assesses exercise intensity using the body's physiological response.

The device offers more than 100 sport modes covering activities such as running, cycling, swimming, gym training and multisport. Its 64GB of onboard storage accommodates maps, routes and training data, with offline music support planned through a subsequent software update.

The Race 3S is available in Orchid, Feather and Black colour options. Suunto lists the watch at €499 in Europe and US$599 in North America. Asia-Pacific availability is scheduled to begin on 29 October 2026, through the company's direct sales channels and authorised outdoor and running retailers.

Founded in Finland in 1936, Suunto has built its business around navigation instruments, dive computers and sports watches. The Race 3S extends that heritage into a market increasingly focused on combining performance tracking, outdoor navigation and personalised digital coaching.
