Malaysia and Switzerland Explore Trade and Investment Opportunities
Malaysia and Switzerland are seeking closer business ties in semiconductors and medical technology, as industry representatives discuss investment conditions, market access and opportunities for cross-border industrial collaboration.
Malaysia and Switzerland are exploring opportunities to deepen bilateral trade, investment and industrial cooperation, with semiconductors and medical technology among the sectors represented at a business meeting in Kuala Lumpur.
The National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM), in collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland in Kuala Lumpur, hosted a visiting Swiss business delegation on October 20, bringing together industry representatives to discuss Malaysia’s business environment, investment opportunities and emerging policy developments.
The Swiss delegation included representatives from economiesuisse, Swiss Medtech and Switzerland Global Enterprise, alongside Alexander Schärer, Deputy Head of Mission at the Swiss Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, and Silvan Wildhaber, president of economiesuisse.
Malaysian participants included representatives from the Malaysian Semiconductor Association (MSA), the Association of Malaysian Medical Industries (AMMI) and the Medical Device Authority (MDA), reflecting the importance of technology and healthcare manufacturing in bilateral industrial engagement.
Discussions covered Malaysia’s investment landscape, industry developments, emerging policy trends and market access opportunities. The meeting also provided a platform for both sides to exchange insights into their respective business environments and identify areas for closer commercial cooperation.
The participation of semiconductor and medical technology industry representatives highlighted the potential to strengthen links between companies, industry associations and relevant authorities. Such engagement can help businesses better understand regulatory requirements, identify prospective partners and assess opportunities for investment and market expansion.
NCCIM was represented by vice-presidents Dzahir Jamudin and Jacob Lee, secretary-general Michael Chai, Prof. Dr. S. Vikneswaran of the Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI), and Germain Thomas of the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI).
Datuk Ts. Dr. Muralitharan Paramasua, chief executive officer of the Medical Device Authority, also attended, alongside representatives from AMMI and MSIA.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of NCCIM and its Swiss counterparts to continued engagement, with the aim of advancing bilateral business relations and promoting mutually beneficial opportunities in trade, investment and industrial collaboration.
For Malaysia, stronger engagement with Swiss business organisations offers another avenue to connect domestic industries with international expertise and commercial networks, particularly in technology-driven sectors where investment, innovation and access to overseas markets are important to long-term growth.
