SMU MBA Rises to Third in Asia in 2027 QS Global MBA Rankings
Singapore Management University’s MBA has climbed to third in Asia and 41st globally in the 2027 QS Global MBA Rankings, while its Master of Science in Applied Finance also placed third in Asia.
SINGAPORE — Singapore Management University’s Master of Business Administration has climbed to third in Asia in the 2027 QS Global MBA Rankings, marking its highest regional position to date and placing the programme 41st globally.
The latest result extends a three year upward movement for the SMU MBA in the regional rankings. It rose from sixth in Asia in 2024 to fifth in 2025, fourth in 2026 and now third in 2027.
The programme is the second highest ranked MBA in Singapore and sits within the top 10 per cent of more than 400 MBA programmes assessed worldwide by QS. The 2027 ranking covers 424 programmes globally.
SMU said the latest performance was supported by improvements in employer recognition and graduate employment, while its MBA ranked fourth in Asia for Thought Leadership.
The university’s Master of Science in Applied Finance also recorded a third place ranking in Asia in the 2027 QS Master’s in Finance Rankings, placing 39th globally.
The finance programme is the only master’s programme in finance from Singapore included in the ranking, according to SMU. The field expanded this year to 319 programmes globally, compared with 248 in the previous edition.
Both programmes performed strongly in the Thought Leadership category. The MBA ranked 33rd globally while the Master of Science in Applied Finance ranked 19th.
SMU said the results reflect the research and academic contribution of its Lee Kong Chian School of Business, where almost all teaching faculty hold doctorates.
Graduate employment was another area highlighted by the university. Its latest graduate employment survey found that 86 per cent of MBA postgraduate students and 78 per cent of Master of Science in Applied Finance postgraduate students secured employment within six months of graduation.
Professor Shantanu Bhattacharya, Deputy Dean of Education at SMU’s Lee Kong Chian School of Business, said the rankings reflected the quality of the university’s faculty, the relevance of its research and the value employers place on its graduates.
He said SMU’s focus remained on providing an education that prepares students to advance their careers and respond to opportunities in a rapidly changing Asian business environment.
The QS rankings assess MBA and Master’s in Finance programmes using five broad areas: employability, alumni outcomes, thought leadership, value for money and diversity. The assessment incorporates feedback from employers and academics globally.
The latest rankings place SMU alongside other leading Asian business schools, with Singapore continuing to feature prominently in the regional MBA landscape.
For Singapore’s business education sector, the results highlight the country’s continued presence among Asia’s leading destinations for postgraduate business education, while SMU has strengthened its position in the latest global assessment.
