Hyatt Regency KL Midtown Gains Design Recognition
The new Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown has received a commendation at the PAM Awards, highlighting a design approach that combines Japanese architecture with Malaysian craftsmanship and the needs of a growing business and lifestyle district.
KUALA LUMPUR — Kuala Lumpur’s rapidly developing hospitality landscape has gained another architectural landmark with Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown receiving a Commendation in the Hospitality category at the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) Awards.
Opened in August 2025, the hotel was designed by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, whose approach combines natural materials, open spaces and light with elements drawn from Malaysia’s cultural and artistic heritage. The recognition comes as KL Midtown develops into a mixed-use business and lifestyle destination spanning hospitality, offices, retail, leisure, residential facilities and an urban park.
Located in the Dutamas–Mont Kiara corridor, the hotel is positioned close to the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), MATRADE and one of Kuala Lumpur’s growing commercial and lifestyle clusters.
The design reflects Kuma’s philosophy of “ma”, placing emphasis on the relationship between space, light and nature. Malaysian-inspired textiles, traditional motifs and handcrafted rattan elements produced by local artisans are incorporated throughout the property, giving the contemporary hotel a distinctly local character.
The property offers 406 accommodations across 15 room categories, comprising 306 guestrooms and suites and 100 fully serviced residences. The residences include one- and two-bedroom layouts, kitchen facilities, separate living and dining areas and laundry facilities, positioning the hotel for both conventional stays and longer-term business travellers.
For corporate and international visitors, its location opposite MITEC is one of the property's key advantages.
The hotel has 16 function spaces covering more than 27,000 square feet, including a pillarless Regency Ballroom capable of accommodating up to 600 guests for banquets. The facilities are designed for conferences, exhibitions, corporate meetings, weddings and other major events.
The combination of accommodation, meeting facilities and proximity to MITEC strengthens the hotel's position within Kuala Lumpur’s growing Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector.
Beyond business travel, the property has also developed a strong leisure proposition, with two infinity pools, a dedicated adults' pool, a family pool with jacuzzi, a fitness centre, sauna and steam facilities and a Kidz Club.
Its culinary offering spans four concepts — Midtown Brasserie, Midtown Lounge, ENSŌ Izakaya & Bar and China House — covering Malaysian, Asian, Western, Japanese and Chinese influences. The hotel also provides certified halal banquet dining, catering to Malaysia’s diverse domestic and international visitor base.
The property's sustainability credentials have also been recognised, with the hotel achieving GreenRE Gold certification after incorporating environmental considerations from the early planning stages.
General Manager Till Martin said sustainability was increasingly important for corporate and MICE customers, particularly as businesses place greater emphasis on environmental responsibility when selecting venues for events.
The hotel's dining operations have separately received recognition at the HAPA Awards 2026, with China House named Best Chinese Restaurant and ENSŌ Izakaya & Bar receiving the Best Bar award. Individual awards were also presented to members of the hotel's culinary team.
With KL Midtown continuing to take shape as an integrated urban destination, Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown is emerging as more than a new hotel. Its combination of design, accommodation, dining and event infrastructure positions it as a potential anchor for a district intended to bring business, leisure and residential activity together in one part of the capital.
The PAM recognition adds an architectural dimension to that proposition, placing the hotel among Kuala Lumpur’s newer hospitality properties where design and local identity are becoming increasingly important parts of the guest experience.
