RIYADH: The world of competitive sport has entered a new technological arena with the launch of CyberHero, a global humanoid robot sports league that plans to stage its inaugural circuit across eight cities worldwide.

Created by Hero Esports, CyberHero made its debut in the Saudi capital with an event designed to showcase what its organisers believe could become a new category of global sports and entertainment.

The Riyadh launch marked the beginning of a planned international circuit spanning four regions: the Middle East, Europe, the Americas and Asia. Two of the eight planned stops are expected to be located in the Middle East.

At the centre of the competition is a vision to move physical artificial intelligence beyond laboratories and controlled demonstrations, placing humanoid robots in competitive environments where their movement, balance, reaction and decision making can be tested before live audiences.

CyberHero x Riyadh also featured what organisers described as the Middle East's first humanoid robot combat event, with EngineAI T800 robots competing inside a purpose built arena.

Standing about 1.73 metres tall and weighing between 75 and 85 kilograms, the humanoid robots have 29 articulated joints and are capable of walking, running, punching, kicking, turning and recovering after falls.

The league uses a team based model involving three distinct groups. Builders are responsible for designing and engineering the robots, coders develop and train the intelligence behind them, while drivers make live decisions and test the capabilities of their teams inside the physical arena.

Danny Tang, co founder and chief executive of Hero Esports, said CyberHero was built around the idea that competition could help push robots beyond their existing limits while generating valuable data to support further technological development.

The company is also establishing a global technology laboratory at its Shanghai headquarters, bringing together technical expertise and talent as it expands its ambitions in robotics and physical AI.

The Riyadh launch was staged as an invite only event but brought together prominent digital personalities from the Middle East, including creator AboFlah and Saudi sports creator Bashar Arabi, who took on management roles for the competing teams.

The event also reflected Saudi Arabia's growing investment in esports, gaming, technology and entertainment, sectors that have become increasingly important to the Kingdom's ambitions to build a globally recognised digital and creative economy.

Hero Esports is now looking for host cities, venues, robotics suppliers, technology partners, universities and commercial partners as it develops the international circuit.

The company sees opportunities for CyberHero to expand beyond robot combat into additional sporting disciplines as humanoid technology becomes more advanced.

That ambition could eventually create a competitive platform that develops alongside the machines themselves, turning sporting competition into both entertainment and a testing ground for the next generation of physical AI.

For the global sports industry, CyberHero represents another sign that the boundaries between sport, technology, gaming and live entertainment are becoming increasingly blurred. What began with esports may now be moving into a new frontier where machines themselves become the athletes.
