Uzbekistan, Jordan move to deepen trade, investment and regional cooperation

Uzbekistan and Jordan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev calling for closer cooperation in trade, investment and cultural exchanges during talks with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi.

Safadi conveyed greetings from King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein at the start of the meeting, underscoring the importance both governments place on expanding ties between the two countries.

The discussions focused on advancing a broad agenda of political, economic and humanitarian cooperation, building on the momentum generated during high level talks held in Samarkand last year, which both sides described as marking a new chapter in bilateral relations.

Since those discussions, Uzbekistan and Jordan have taken several concrete steps to strengthen institutional links. Inter parliamentary friendship groups have been established, the inaugural meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission has been held, a bilateral Business Council has been launched and direct air services between the two countries have commenced.

President Mirziyoyev said the priority now is to translate political goodwill into practical cooperation by promoting joint investment projects and expanding commercial exchanges between businesses in both countries.

The leaders also discussed opportunities to deepen collaboration in culture, education and humanitarian programmes, areas that have become increasingly important as Uzbekistan broadens its engagement with partners across the Middle East.

Beyond bilateral issues, the meeting included an exchange of views on regional and international developments, reflecting the growing importance both countries place on dialogue over shared geopolitical and economic challenges.

For Uzbekistan, closer engagement with Jordan forms part of its wider strategy of strengthening partnerships across the Arab world while positioning itself as a bridge between Central Asia and the Middle East.

The meeting also highlights Tashkent's continued emphasis on economic diplomacy, with the government seeking to attract new investment, expand market access and develop transport connectivity as part of its long term development agenda.

While no new agreements were announced during the meeting, officials indicated that existing cooperation mechanisms, including the Joint Intergovernmental Commission and the Business Council, are expected to drive the next phase of bilateral projects in the months ahead.
