Selangor Fencing thanks corporate partners after SUKMA gold rush
Corporate support has helped Selangor athletes compete at their best at SUKMA Selangor 2026, with the state’s fencing team delivering two men’s foil gold medals (both individual and team) as Selangor strengthened its position as the dominant sporting force across the Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
The Selangor Amateur Fencing Association has expressed its appreciation to the state’s corporate sponsors for their support of the Selangor SUKMA fencing team, saying contributions from companies across the state have made a meaningful difference to athletes competing at the Malaysia Games.
Among those recognised is Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB), which supported the fencing team with Aquasel mineral water throughout SUKMA Selangor 2026. Access to drinking water may appear to be a small part of a major sporting campaign, the fencing association said practical support of this kind is important in helping athletes remain hydrated, focused and ready to perform during demanding competition and training schedules.
The support came as Selangor fencing delivered one of its strongest performances at the Malaysia Games, winning two gold medals in men’s foil. The state claimed the individual men’s foil title before adding gold in the team event, underlining Selangor’s position as one of Malaysia’s leading breading grounds for men’s foil.
The two victories were particularly significant for a fencing programme seeking to build on its development pathway and establish a stronger presence across Malaysia’s competitive fencing landscape.
In a social media post, the association valued the contribution of the corporate sector. The achievements should also be viewed as part of a wider partnership between athletes, coaches, the state sports administration and the corporate sector.
Selangor’s corporate community has traditionally played an important role in supporting sporting programmes, and that backing has become increasingly valuable as athletes face the costs associated with equipment, training, international travel, competition and preparation.
In emotional scenes at the fencing team also thanked the Majlis Sukan Negeri Selangor (MSN Selangor) for its continued support of fencing and its athletes.
That ongoing institutional support, combined with assistance from corporate partners, provides athletes with an environment in which they can concentrate on development and performance.
The success of fencing has come against the backdrop of a dominant SUKMA campaign by Selangor. With the Games entering their final day, Selangor had already surpassed its original target of 80 gold medals, reaching 97 gold, 71 silver and 69 bronze medals by Aug 23, putting the hosts 47 gold medals ahead of the Federal Territories in second place.
The performance across the wider contingent has been equally impressive, with Selangor emerging as the clear overall leader after strong performances in rugby, football, swimming, badminton, gymnastics, squash and a range of other sports. These sports also received considerable support from Selangor based corporatations. While Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporation (MBI Selangor) has take a strong position as an overall sponsor of the Games, together with funding injected directly into high potential sports through the Yayasan MBI, Selangor state has taken a strategic lead in sports development in the country.
For fencing, however, the focus now turns to building on the two gold medals. While the men’s foil squad produced the headline results, Selangor’s other weapons were close to the medals, providing a strong indication of the potential for further improvement before the next SUKMA in Kelantan in 2028. The promising performances that fell just short of medals should serve as motivation rather than disappointment, with continued investment in athlete development, coaching and competition exposure capable of moving more Selangor fencers onto the podium.
For the athletes, the message to corporate supporters is therefore straightforward, the contribution does make a difference. From providing essential competition-day support such as hydration to helping sustain the broader sporting ecosystem, corporate partners are part of the journey behind the medals.
One of the parents commented “As a parent, we have seen a dramatic increase in support for fencing from the state association, the government and the corporate sector in Selangor. The future is very positive, and I believe we can build on this together. That support helps to reduce some of the developmental burden faced by athletes and their families. At the end of the day, the athletes just want to compete, train and improve.”
“When everyone works as a team, the association, MSN Selangor, government, corporate sponsors, coaches, parents and athletes, results like these are possible. The two gold medals in men’s foil show what can be achieved when we come together and give our athletes the support they need.”
For a fencing programme that returned home with two men’s foil gold medals, the partnership has already produced results and the next target is to ensure more weapons can join the medal winners when Selangor’s fencers take to the piste at SUKMA Kelantan 2028.
