DKSH Marks 120 Years in Thailand as Swiss Business Ties Deepen
The Swiss market expansion services group is reinforcing its long-term commitment to Thailand after 120 years in the country, with chief executive Stefan P. Butz meeting Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul during a Swiss business delegation visit focused on strengthening economic cooperation.
BANGKOK: DKSH is looking to build on more than a century of operations in Thailand as the Swiss-based group reinforces its role in connecting international companies with local markets, businesses and consumers.
Chief executive Stefan P. Butz met Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and senior government ministers during the recent visit to Bangkok by a Swiss delegation led by Federal President Guy Parmelin.
The meeting coincided with DKSH's celebration of 120 years in Thailand, highlighting the group's longstanding presence in one of its key Asian markets and its ambition to support continued economic development, innovation and sustainable growth.
In a statement, DKSH said the engagement reaffirmed its position as a partner supporting local businesses, international companies, employment and economic development in Thailand.
The company's history in the country dates back to 1906, when Diethelm & Co. was established along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. Over the following decades, its operations expanded into a broad market expansion services business spanning distribution, marketing and sales.
According to its official Thailand website, the country has become the largest hub in DKSH's global network, underscoring its strategic importance to the group's regional and international operations.
DKSH's activities in Thailand cover four principal business areas: Consumer Goods, Healthcare, Performance Materials and Technology. These include fast-moving consumer goods, food services, luxury and lifestyle products, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, food and beverage ingredients, specialty chemicals, scientific equipment, and semiconductor and electronics solutions.
This diversified business model allows the group to work with international manufacturers seeking to establish or expand their presence in Thailand, while providing local distribution networks, market knowledge and commercial capabilities.
The company's positioning also reflects the importance of established market access and local partnerships for foreign businesses navigating Southeast Asia's competitive consumer and industrial markets.
DKSH operates across 35 markets globally and employs 26,840 people, according to figures published on its website. Its Thai operations form a significant part of this international network.
The recent meeting with Thailand's leadership took place against a broader backdrop of efforts to deepen economic relations between Switzerland and Thailand.
During Parmelin's official visit from October 15 to 17, the two countries discussed trade and investment promotion, the Thailand-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Free Trade Agreement, science and technology, innovation, human resource development and climate action.
Thailand has identified stronger investment ties and cooperation in advanced industries as priorities for its economic development. The Thai government has also highlighted opportunities in advanced manufacturing, medical technology, food innovation and green technology.
For companies such as DKSH, these priorities provide a broader context for commercial growth, particularly where international expertise, established distribution networks and local market knowledge can help businesses bring products and technologies to market.
The Swiss delegation's visit also coincided with the 95th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Thailand, providing an opportunity to reinforce longstanding economic and diplomatic ties.
DKSH said Thailand remained central to its ambition of driving sustainable growth, fostering innovation and enriching people's lives. The group expressed its appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the prime minister and reaffirmed its intention to contribute to the country's long-term development.
As DKSH enters its 121st year in Thailand, its established presence offers a platform for further growth across consumer goods, healthcare, industrial materials and technology. Its next phase of development will depend on how effectively it builds on those relationships while responding to changing market needs and opportunities for international investment.
