ALE 2026 Opens in Kuala Lumpur as Industry Tackles Technological Shifts and STEM Talent Gap
The Asian Lubricant Exhibition (ALE) 2026 officially commenced at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) yesterday, 8th September 2026, bringing together regional leaders, engineers, and emerging professionals to navigate an era of rapid technological disruption and green transition.
KUALA LUMPUR, 9th September 2026 — The Asian Lubricant Exhibition (ALE) 2026 officially commenced at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) yesterday, 8th September 2026, bringing together regional leaders, engineers, and emerging professionals to navigate an era of rapid technological disruption and green transition.

The three-day exhibition, which runs through September 10 at MITEC’s Hall 1, marks the third edition of the regional trade gathering. Jointly organized by the Asian Lubricants Industry Association (ALIA) and Fuel & Lubes (F&L) Asia, the expo has drawn over 1,500 participants spanning the lubricants value chain—from base oil refiners and chemical additive manufacturers to industrial grease specialists and advanced thermal management innovators.
Officiating the event as Guest of Honour, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) YB Sim Tze Tzin delivered the opening keynote address. Sim outlined Malaysia’s ongoing industrial transformation and ambitious high-value manufacturing targets, highlighting how specialized fluid technologies and advanced formulations serve as critical backbones for sustainable economic growth and high-tech supply chain resilience.
While traditionally associated with automotive engines and heavy industrial machinery, the lubricants sector is undergoing a profound structural evolution. Accelerated demand from artificial intelligence data centers requiring high-performance liquid cooling, alongside the expansion of electric vehicles (EVs) and bio-based chemistry, has reshaped the sector’s strategic priorities and operational footprint.
“A central focus of this year’s convention is bridging the widening science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) talent gap to keep pace with these shifts. Addressing changing workforce demands, ALE 2026 has introduced a dedicated Future Careers Day on September 10. The initiative connects university students and young professionals directly with corporate leaders across research and development, chemical formulation, field engineering, and corporate sustainability,” said Eric Holthusen, ALIA Technical Adviser during the press conference that was panelled by Holthusen, Steve Puckett, Director of ALIA, Ravi Tallamraju, ALIA council member and Paul Nai, ALIA Council Co-Chair.
“If we want more young professionals to consider careers in this sector, we first need to show them the breadth of opportunities it offers,” said Linda Ismail, General Manager of ALIA. She emphasised that the lubricants sector increasingly intersects with advanced manufacturing, sustainable chemistry, clean mobility, and next-generation data-centre cooling infrastructure, providing a modern entry point for aspiring technical graduates.
Beyond talent recruitment, the exhibition agenda features specialized technical training modules and high-level panel discussions. In partnership with the European Lubricating Grease Institute, the event hosts the two-day ELGI Grease Technology Course, focusing on modern grease formulation and heavy industrial applications.
Sustainability and niche compliance also take center stage on the final day. Delegates will take part in an Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants Workshop covering biodegradable formulations and marine environmental regulations, as well as a dedicated Halal Lubricants Certification Seminar offering step-by-step guidance for food-grade compliance.
Fostering broader inclusion, the event will also feature a dedicated "Women in Lubricants" panel on September 10, spotlighting female executives and technical pioneers from Hyrax Oil, BP Castrol, Richful Lube Additive, Wing Hin Motorsports, and ALIA.
As industrial fluid technologies increasingly underpin energy efficiency in high-performance computing and low-carbon transport, ALE 2026 highlights an industry actively redefining its purpose and workforce for the future.
