France-Malaysia Innovation Day 2026 strengthens bilateral technology and research ties

KUALA LUMPUR – France and Malaysia have reaffirmed their growing partnership in innovation, research and emerging technologies following the successful staging of France-Malaysia Innovation Day 2026, bringing together government leaders, researchers, entrepreneurs and industry representatives to explore new opportunities for collaboration.

Held under the theme of advancing innovation through international cooperation, the annual event highlighted the expanding relationship between the two countries across artificial intelligence, digital technologies, sustainable development, higher education and scientific research.

The initiative, organised by the Embassy of France in Malaysia together with French and Malaysian partners, showcased France's commitment to strengthening innovation diplomacy while supporting Malaysia's ambitions to become one of Southeast Asia's leading digital and technology driven economies.

French Ambassador to Malaysia Axel Cruau said the event reflected the strength of the bilateral relationship, with innovation becoming an increasingly important pillar alongside trade, investment, education and cultural exchanges.

The programme featured keynote addresses, panel discussions and networking sessions involving technology companies, universities, start ups, researchers and public sector agencies from both countries.

Discussions focused on practical cooperation in areas including artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, digital transformation, cybersecurity, health technologies and sustainable innovation, while also encouraging stronger links between Malaysian and French innovation ecosystems.

Participants explored opportunities for joint research projects, commercialisation partnerships, academic exchanges and technology transfer, reflecting the growing demand for cross border collaboration in addressing global challenges.

France has steadily expanded its scientific cooperation with Malaysia through research funding, university partnerships and innovation programmes designed to connect researchers and entrepreneurs from both countries. The Embassy also continues to promote initiatives such as the France-Malaysia Collaboration Programme for Joint Research (MyTIGER), which supports collaborative scientific projects between Malaysian and French institutions.

The event also reinforced France's position as one of Malaysia's longstanding European partners in higher education, science and technology. More than 260 French companies operate in Malaysia across sectors including aerospace, engineering, energy, healthcare, transport and digital technologies, contributing to investment, employment and technology development.

Malaysia has increasingly attracted international recognition for its progress in digital transformation and responsible adoption of artificial intelligence, making it an attractive partner for countries seeking deeper collaboration in innovation.

France has previously described Malaysia as one of Southeast Asia's leaders in innovation and digital transformation, citing the country's commitment to technology development and ethical AI as important foundations for future cooperation.

France-Malaysia Innovation Day has become an important platform for connecting businesses, researchers and policy makers, while encouraging new commercial partnerships and strengthening people to people links between the two countries.

As both governments continue to prioritise innovation led economic growth, the annual event is expected to play an increasingly significant role in fostering collaboration across emerging technologies and supporting sustainable economic development throughout the region.
