KUALA LUMPUR  – Malaysia’s cultural diversity, heritage and national identity will take centre stage at the Merdeka Art Exhibition 2026, which brings together local artists to celebrate the country through the language of art.

Organised by NGO SAKSAMA together with Art Market Malaysia, the exhibition runs from 25 August to 16 September 2026 at Shoppes at Four Seasons Place, Kuala Lumpur, under the theme Beautiful Malaysia. The exhibition is being held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 – Truly Asia and forms part of the celebrations surrounding Malaysia’s National Month and Malaysia Day.

The official Opening Ceremony took place on 29 August 2026 and will be officiated by Yang Teramat Mulia Tunku Puan Sri Dato’ Hajah Noor Hayati Binti Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. Merdeka Art Exhibition 2026 brings together artworks reflecting Malaysia from a range of artistic perspectives, with works exploring the country’s cultural heritage, landscapes, multicultural society, history and aspirations for the future.

The exhibition also provides a platform for local artists to introduce their work to the wider public, including Malaysian visitors and international tourists visiting the capital. Organisers said the initiative is intended to make art more accessible to the community while encouraging greater appreciation of local creativity and artistic expression.

Beyond the artworks themselves, the exhibition will feature various arts activities and community engagement initiatives throughout its run, creating opportunities for visitors from different backgrounds to engage with art and culture.

The exhibition has received support from a range of organisations, including McDonald’s Malaysia, SF Biscuit, KL Hop-On Hop-Off and Unicorn Stationery, alongside collaboration and support from Yuza PR, AFAS and Grafico.

The organisers said the exhibition is intended to serve as more than a conventional art showcase, using art as a means of bringing people together and highlighting the different identities, stories and experiences that form Malaysia.
