President Prabowo Subianto is pushing for a comprehensive overhaul of the Hajj and Umrah governance, from managing Hajj funds to eradicating practices detrimental to pilgrims. This was conveyed by Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf and Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak after receiving the President at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Monday, September 28, 2026.

According to the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, the President is paying close attention to efforts to cleanse the Hajj and Umrah ecosystem of various fraudulent practices that have harmed prospective pilgrims. The President also commended the Ministry for launching a hotline to eradicate the Hajj and Umrah mafia.

"He greatly appreciates our efforts to rid the Hajj and Umrah ecosystem of cartels, various violations, and fraud, all of which result in losses for prospective pilgrims," Irfan said.

Irfan emphasized that the President's support strengthens the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah's efforts to continue its restructuring efforts. "Hopefully, with his appreciation, we will be even more enthusiastic about cleaning up everything related to the Hajj and Umrah, so that pilgrims are not harmed. "Sweep," as he put it, "sweep away all the cartels and mafias associated with the Hajj and Umrah," he continued.

In addition to improving the service ecosystem, the President also placed special emphasis on the management of Hajj funds. Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak stated that the President is pushing for a forensic audit of Hajj financial management to obtain a factual picture of the current situation.

"The President earlier urged that a forensic audit be conducted immediately on the management of Hajj funds," said Dahnil.

According to Dahnil, this step is crucial as part of efforts to reconstruct the management of Hajj funds to improve the future of pilgrims. Through a forensic audit, the government aims to ascertain the true state of Hajj financial management so that improvements can be made appropriately and comprehensively.

"Because the President wants to know the real facts about the actual financial condition of the Hajj," said Dahnil.

Dahnil added that follow-up to the directive will be coordinated with relevant parties, including the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP). The government aims to ensure cleaner, more accountable Hajj and Umrah governance, while protecting the interests of pilgrims from registration to departure.
