Hong Kong businesses urged to turn AI adoption into productivity gains as HKPC launches digital transformation zone
The Hong Kong Productivity Council and Chamber of Hong Kong Computer Industry are bringing nearly 30 technology companies and more than 20 seminars and workshops together at HKCCF 2026, with a focus on helping SMEs turn AI from an emerging technology into practical business gains.
Hong Kong businesses will be given a practical route to accelerate artificial intelligence adoption and digital transformation as the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) partners with the Chamber of Hong Kong Computer Industry (CHKCI) to launch an “AI & Digital Transformation Zone” at the Hong Kong Computer & Communications Festival 2026.
The inaugural zone will run from Aug 21 to 24 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, bringing together nearly 30 exhibitors alongside more than 20 AI forums, sharing sessions and workshops aimed at SMEs, working professionals and the wider public.
Rather than focusing solely on the technology itself, the initiative will centre on how businesses can apply AI to everyday operations, improve productivity, develop new services and strengthen competitiveness.
The programme comes as AI adoption increasingly moves from experimentation towards implementation, with companies looking to integrate AI into workflows while managing the costs, skills requirements and operational changes associated with digital transformation.
Dr Lawrence Cheung, chief technology officer of HKPC, said Hong Kong was at a critical stage in accelerating AI adoption and that the value of AI would ultimately depend on its ability to produce measurable improvements in business performance.
HKPC will operate an “AI with HKPC Business Empowerment” pavilion within the zone, providing demonstrations, hands on experiences and professional guidance for SMEs and individuals seeking to apply AI to practical business challenges.
The pavilion will focus on two areas: “Reinventing Professional Services” and “Business Empowerment”. The first will examine how AI is changing workflows in sectors including banking and finance, legal and accounting services, while the second will provide SMEs with accessible AI tools, workshops and professional consultation.
Nearly 30 companies from the InnoPreneur Network, together with “vClinic Doctors”, will showcase applications covering areas such as cyber security, online legal arbitration, omnichannel AI chatbots and business messaging.
The objective is to help companies identify specific use cases rather than simply adopting AI as a broad technology initiative.
More than 20 forums and workshops will also explore AI applications ranging from enterprise transformation and personal productivity to content creation and fraud prevention.
One of the featured sessions, “AI x Video: Create Reels in 10 Minutes”, will demonstrate how businesses and individuals can use AI to develop short form video content, including topic selection, scripts, hooks, subtitles and editing.
Another session, “AI First x Digital Transformation: One Person Team, Infinite Possibilities”, will examine how AI agents can automate repetitive and cross functional tasks, potentially allowing individuals and smaller businesses to operate with capabilities traditionally requiring larger teams.
A further session, “AI x Productivity: Work Smarter, Not Harder”, will focus on integrating AI into daily workflows and delegating repetitive work to technology so employees can concentrate on higher value activities.
The programme will also address risks accompanying wider AI adoption. Sessions will cover AI ethics, cyber security and identifying AI enabled scams, reflecting growing concerns over how businesses and consumers can use the technology while maintaining trust and security.
Some workshops will subsequently be recorded and made available as free online courses through HKPC Academy's “AI BiteClass” initiative and the Government's iAM Smart app, extending access beyond the four day event.
The AI and Digital Transformation Zone forms part of a wider push to translate Hong Kong's technology capabilities into business and productivity gains. For SMEs in particular, the emphasis on practical tools and training could help narrow the gap between awareness of AI and its actual integration into business operations.
The event will be held at Hall 1C, Booth P21, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 10am to 9pm from Aug 21 to 23, and until 7pm on Aug 24. Workshops are free, with registration required for selected sessions.
