President Prabowo orders accelerated response to power outages and stable fuel prices
President Prabowo Subianto has ordered immediate action to address power outages in parts of Indonesia, while reaffirming the government's commitment to maintaining subsidised fuel prices and enforcing downstream investment obligations in the mining sector.
President Prabowo Subianto instructed relevant officials to take immediate steps to resolve the power outages affecting several regions. This was conveyed by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, in a statement at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
"We must acknowledge that in several areas, particularly in Kalimantan, power outages are still occurring in some areas. Therefore, the President has instructed me to immediately take measured steps with PLN to resolve this effectively," explained Minister Bahlil. Bahlil further explained that the power outage was not caused by limited energy supply. Bahlil assured that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and PLN would promptly resolve the issue.
"According to information from PLN, it's related to maintenance. It's not an energy issue; there's no problem with the energy," he said.
Regarding national fuel prices, Minister Bahlil stated that President Prabowo has directed that fuel price stability, particularly subsidized fuel, be maintained. He added that the government will also consider adjusting non-subsidized fuel prices, taking into account developments in global crude oil prices.
"The President's directives stipulate that subsidized fuel prices must not be raised. However, if the global ICP price does decrease, we will also consider adjusting the non-subsidized fuel price to market prices. If it goes down, then it goes down; don't raise it, that's roughly the case," he said.
Meanwhile, regarding the downstreaming program, Bahlil emphasized that the government will ensure that all national companies that obtain extensions from their Coal Mining Work Agreements (PKP2B) to Special Mining Business Permits (IUPK) carry out their downstreaming commitments in accordance with applicable regulations.
"The President's directive must be strictly implemented in accordance with the regulations. If anyone fails to comply, immediate and measurable steps must be taken to ensure compliance with Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution," he concluded.
